Site Usage

This site is free for anyone to use provided the following rules are adhered to. Failure to observe some or all these rules will result in termination of your account.

  • The following will not be tolerated - bullying behaviour, aggravative behaviour, racist behaviour, deliberate misinformation or other unpleasant behaviour.
  • This site is for bird watchers and bird watching data collection. Any other use is strictly prohibited.
  • Uploaded images should be of birds or bird related content only.
  • Please refrain from using foul / unsavoury language.
  • If you account is dormant for more than 6 months it will be terminated. Extentions will be permitted if you contact me by email explaining your reasons.

    Third Parties

    GBW will, from time to time, share the data collected on this site with other reputable ornithological groups for statistical analysis. Please contact me to discuss this further if you wish.

    Your Data

    The data / text you enter on this site whether through blogs / forums / sightings / favorites etc, will remain the property of GBW. If you terminate your account the data will still be available on the GBW web site.

    Data Protection

    All attempts are made to protect your personal data. On this site we only ask for your name and email address. This will not be shared with any third parties. If you wish to share any other personal information in the meeting place or on the forum then we will advise you not to. If you do GBW will not be held liable for its misuse. Your password is encrypted so even we do not know what it is.

    Your Images

    Your images remain the property of the user. You have sole control over whether to share them or not. GBW will not attempt to use your images in anyway whatsoever unless you select the option to 'share' the image. If you select this option then GBW will regard that as permission to use the images throughout the GBW website for any use. GBW will not distribute these images to other web sites. Images will be destroyed on our servers at the time when you terminate your account. To do this simply email us with your wish to terminate the account and destroy your images. Alternatively, you can delete the images yourself through the control panel.

    GBW Nexus

    The Nexus is a central area for like minded bird fanciers to meet and discuss common themes and statistics. Through the Nexus you may be invited to face-to-face meetings at various functions. We urge you to take precautions at these meetings. Here is a good site to start from: Internet Watch. It is your responsibility to research meetings derived from Internet meeting places. I urge you to a least go with a trusted friend.

    GBW Data

    I have added ficticious sightings data to this site so that bird watchers can get used to using the rich statistics on this site. The ficticious data is marked in the database and later on this year it wil be removed. There will be an annoucement when this will occur. Until then, GBW make no assurance of the accurancy of this data on this site or the use thereof. After the ficticious data has been removed it will run solely on user sightings. Although the data is ficticious, nevertheless, I spent many hours trying to make it as realistic as possible.
